I am Anuradha Sandeepika. As the founder of Lens Light Visuals (LLV), I constantly strive to show the world the spiritual truth and silence embedded within an image, rather than simply capturing an image. My camera lens focuses on the innocent and still events of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty. Today, I take you to a vision of life that I saw through the lens of a butterfly perched on a flower on a beautiful evening.
The Spirit of the Photograph: A Silent Moment
The first thing you notice when looking at this photograph is its softness. In keeping with my LLV Master Visual Style, I captured this scene from a very low-angle shot. It signifies the respect and intimacy we have for this creature. The butterfly perched on a flower seems to be in a silent prayer of its own, separated from the world.
The composition is very simple. There are no unnecessary colors or objects here. The soft green color and muted earth tones of the natural environment are used as a background to highlight the beauty of the main object, the butterfly and the flower.
Butterfly: Nature's Amazing Design (Biological Background)
This butterfly shown in the photo shows characteristics similar to a species called Grey Pansy (Junonia atlites). The "eye"-like markings on their wings are a defense mechanism in nature. They are able to scare off enemies.
Butterfly Life Cycle and Behavior: A butterfly is a symbol of transformation. It is a great wonder that it starts as an egg, becomes a caterpillar, then spends its time quietly in a cell (pupa), and finally is born as such a beautiful winged creature. Butterflies use their feet to detect flavors and contribute greatly to the pollination process of the environment by sucking nectar.
They often enjoy basking in the morning sun. It helps to regulate their body temperature. As shown in the photo, a moment when a butterfly is still is a time for them to rest or gather energy.
Environment and Sri Lankan Identity
Sri Lanka is an island rich in biodiversity. Our gardens, forests and wetlands are a paradise for these delicate creatures. The soft, diffused natural light at the location where this photo was taken perfectly highlights the subtlety of a water wave or the organic textures of a flower petal.
In Sri Lankan culture, we have always sought a spiritual healing connected to nature. The vegetation and flora surrounding our ancient shrines teach us the lesson of coexistence.
Spiritual Vision: The Beauty of Solitude
Today's world has become very fast and noisy. But this butterfly teaches us the power of silence. Being alone is not a loneliness, but a precious opportunity to know oneself. In my photography, I focus more on "feeling" than on technical aspects. The calmness you feel when you look at this image is the success of my creation.
The delicate patterns on the wings of a butterfly, like our lives, are very complex. But within that complexity lies an amazing beauty. All we have to do is stop for a moment and look at it with our minds.
📷 Gentle Tips for Beginners
If you are also someone who wants to capture the beauty of the environment on your camera lens, keep these points in mind:
1. Be patient: Animals like butterflies are very sensitive. When approaching them, approach them very slowly and respectfully. Let them feel that you are also a part of their environment.
2. Find natural light: Choose soft light in the morning or evening rather than the harsh sunlight. It brings out the true nature of the objects better.
3. Try low angles: Instead of always standing and taking photos, sit or lie down on the ground and get to the animal’s eye level. This creates a wonderful intimacy.
4. Prioritize emotion over technology: Don’t just think about camera settings, try to capture what your heart feels from the scene you see.
Final Thought
Nature is an open book. Every page of it is written about a story of love and silence. You, who are reading this blog article, try to take at least one moment today and enjoy the beauty of the environment around you. I pray that the spiritual silence that I see through Lens Light Visuals will settle in your hearts as well.
